Evening Hymns
Evening Hymns are sung from the cathedrals of talls trees. They capture the spirit of moments, of friends around a bonfire on a foggy beach, the crunching of snowshoes in the silence of a winter night and memories of tribal boys growing up with pellet guns, fishing and handmade forts.
Songwriter Jonas Bonnetta comes out of the hinterland, along with a yelping group of banshees and some sweet-singing wood nymphs with Evening Hymns’ latest release Spirit Guides. Honing songs while cutting logs into planks in the sawdust and sunset of a clearing, Bonnetta has the ear of a woodsman: he knows when the saw blade is dull by the sound it makes against the wood. The album is full of wild sounds for the urban world, from the experience of seasons between two extremes: raucous touring nights with shouts in the streetlights, and in the woods, operating the sawmill he bought with his father a few years back. Somewhere between the two, Evening Hymns finds a rhythm for modern life.

Evening hymns (les hymnes du soir) sont chantés depuis les cathédrales que dessinent les grands arbres. Ils capturent l’esprit de ces instants, celui des amis réunis autour d’un feu de joie sur une plage brumeuse, celui du craquement des pas sur la neige dans le silence d’une nuit d’hiver et les souvenirs des enfants sauvages dans leur univers de sarbacanes, de pêche et châteaux de bois. Avec "Spirit Guides ", le songwriter Jonas Bonnetta sort de l’arrière-pays accompagné d’une nuée d'esprits glapissants et de nymphes sylvestres au chant délicat. C'est les pieds dans la sciure, en coupant des bûches dans le soleil couchant d'une clairière qu'il façonne ses chansons. Bonnetta a l'oreille des menuisiers: il sait par le son qu'elle fait au contact du bois que la lame de la scie est émoussée. L’album est plein de ces sons sauvages inconnus du monde urbain, nés de l’alternance des saisons entre deux extrêmes : des cris poussés sous les lumières des villes lors des nuits rauques de tournée à sa vie dans les bois, où il exploite la scierie qu’il a acheté il y a quelques années avec son père. Quelque part ente ces deux univers, Evening Hymns trouve un rythme à la vie moderne. Violemment émotionnel et merveilleusement artisanal, Spirit Guides dessine une carte de la musique à la manière d'un corbeau qui prend son envol.
Soso
An artist known for weaving compelling personal narratives with his sparse, beautiful production style, soso (Troy Gronsdahl) has become a fixture of the avant-garde hip hop/art rap movement. An artist, writer and beatsmith from Saskatchewan, Canada, his music is unapologetic and decidedly home-made. A capable writer, his sincere lyrics have been embraced by hip hop heads and the music savvy alike. Informed by culture and place, soso spins narratives that interweave family and social histories with landscape and weather. His songs are personal and refreshingly honest.
Originaire de Saskatoon (Canada), soso (Troy Gronsdahl) est connu pour ses productions extrêmement soignées, sincères et aériennes . En écrivain averti, il délivre de véritables récits à travers ses chansons qui sont autant de pièces narratives personnelles et convaincantes. Les paysages et le temps forment les décors d’histoires familiales ou collectives. Le résultat, du fait-maison résolument maîtrisé et une musique qui laisse des traces.
Hospital Ships
Jordan Geiger, songwriter of Minus Story, trumpet player for Shearwater and resident of Lawrence, Kansas, brings you his bedroom-pop solo album, Oh, Ramona. Influenced by the sounds of The Flaming Lips song from which the name Hospital Ships is drawn, Geiger's debut exudes a seasoning of classic influences including John Lennon, The Zombies, and ELO to produce a bedroom pop symphony. Exploring relationships both failed and ongoing with friends, lovers, and pets, J.G. delicately teases the listener with his boyish tenor of a voice. In the background, muted horns swell, pianos twinkle, and percussion marches in step. Mixed mostly by John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, Modest Mouse, The Mountain Goats, The Polyphonic Spree), Oh, Ramona is the culmination of over two and half years of writing and recording.

Winter & Bonfire
Winter & Bonfire is the ephemeral group created by A. Delano, St. Augustine and Leopold Skin during a week of residence in a village in the Cantal during the winter 2009. It is also accompanied by the crackling fire, minimalist reinterpretation of tracks from their songbooks and original creations, whose beauty is inversely proportional to the modesty of resources used.
Winter & Bonfire est le groupe éphémère créé par A. Delano, St Augustine et Leopold Skin à l'occasion d'une semaine de résidence dans un village du Cantal à l'hiver 2009. C'est aussi, accompagné par les crépitements du feu, la ré-interprétation minimaliste de titres de leurs répertoires et des créations originales, dont la beauté est inversement proportionnelle à la modestie des moyens mis en oeuvre.
Kütu Folk Records (The Band)
Kütu Folk Records is an independent music label based in Clermont-Ferrand (France). It brings together eleven bands and artists sharing common values and purposes (sincerity, beauty of the items, personalisation of the creations). Friendly and musical bonds have been tied between the artists, and collective concerts have brought them together exceptionally into one unique band. Through these collaborations, the band have been fed and enriched by each artist’s individual sound and influence: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elliot Smith, Bright Eyes, Why?, The Notwist....
Kütu Folk Records est un label de musique indépendant basé à Clermont-Ferrand réunissant onze groupes ou artistes autour de valeurs et d’objectifs communs (sincérité, esthétique des objets distribués, personnalisation des créations). Garciaphone
A drummer of several folk-rock bands, Olivier Perez creates garciaphone in 2007 while living in Oslo. It was in Mexico City, a few years earlier, that he started composing with a guitar, deprived of his rythmic instrument. By his cryptic lyrics on bright pop melodies, unsettling questions you can hum, garciaphone brings you to a subtle low-key range of feelings. Alone with a guitar and a sampler or backed by a rythm section reminding of the Pixies - contrasting with another obvious reference, Elliott Smith - his songs can leave no one indifferent.
Batteur de formation, Olivier Perez crée garciaphone en 2007 alors qu’il vit à Oslo. C’est à Mexico, quelques années plus tôt, alors privé de son instrument rythmique, qu’il avait commencé à composer à la guitare. Par ses textes énigmatiques sur des mélodies pop, ces questions troublantes que l’on fredonne, garciaphone invite au clair-obscur. Qu'il soit seul avec une guitare et des machines ou soutenu par une basse-batterie ‘pixies-esque’ (contrastant avec une autre référence évidente, Elliott Smith) ses chansons ne peuvent laisser indifférent.
Zak Laughed
Zak Laughed (Zacharie J. Frisco) was born in 2007 around some compositions.
Alone or surrounded by friends, he composes songs full of melancholy, irony or tragicomedy, influenced by great pop melodists, murder ballads, litterature and contemplative cinema. After his debut album and a french tour, Z.J. Frisco has recorded "Love is in the Carpet" with some help from 7 musicians. Favoring first take’s spontaneity and live energy, he uses electricity to twist skinny and primarily acoustic songs.
This intimist record offers a succession of primitive, rough, both harmonious and dissonant arrangements adorning melodies and bitter personal texts.
Zak Laughed, projet de Zacharie J. Frisco, est né en 2007 autour de quelques compositions empruntes de mélancolie, d’ironie ou de tragi-comédie,influencées par les grands mélodistes pop, les murder ballads, la littérature et le cinéma contemplatif.
"Love is in the Carpet" privilégie la spontanéité des premières prises, l’énergie du live et use d'électricité pour triturer des chansons de prime abord acoustiques et dépouillées.
Cet album intimiste propose ainsi des mélodies et des textes acerbes et personnels ornés d'une succession d’arrangements primitifs, rêches, à la fois harmonieux et dissonants.

The Delano Orchestra
The Delano Orchestra is a band of its own kind. Six musicians, powerful guitars, a cello, a trumpet carry us away with their indie pop tunes, genuine folk songwriting, fierce electric build-ups. Their music, born to a setting of mounts and lakes, is the perfect expression of their front man’s tormented lyrics.
The Delano Orchestra est un groupe à part. Formé de six musiciens, de guitares puissantes, d'un violoncelle, d'une trompette, cette petite troupe parvient à nous emporter dans leurs mélodies pop, dans la sincérité d'une écriture folk et personnelle, dans la puissance de leurs envolées électriques. Leur musique, dans un décor de monts et de lacs, offre un somptueux écrin aux témoignages écorchés de leur leader.
Dempster Highway
Clément Fabre gives birth to Dempster Highway on a cold winter eve of 2010. Follows a prolific writing of blues/folk songs composed way to early in the morning and roughly recorded, leading to what will become his first E.P, entitled “running in circles”. June 2011, he initiates the recording of new songs, prone to the same sincerity, thus placing his songs in a stripped register in which the elegance of the riff becomes unstoppable, where the power of the voices rattles and where the fragility remains master of the whole.
Clément Fabre crée Dempster Highway un soir d’hiver 2010. S’en suit une écriture prolixe de morceaux blues/folk composés trop tôt le matin et enregistrés de façon rudimentaire, qui se traduira par un premier E.P autoproduit, intitulé « running in circle ». En juin 2011, il amorce l’enregistrement de nouveaux titres, dont l’écriture est emprunte de la même sincérité, inscrivant ses compositions dans un registre dépouillé où l’élégance du riff devient imparable, où la puissance des voix ébranle et où la fragilité reste maîtresse de tout.
Kim Novak
For their noted first album "Luck and accident", the press was unanimous. They were the worthy heirs of Interpol. Modern young folks to be closely watched as they outrageously ruled out the competition on their own turf. Far from early cold wave allusions, KIM NOVAK comes back in 2011 and dreams of another destiny: New songs, new line-up, more substantial artistical direction. KIM NOVAK has enlarged their horizons and the songs have become more subtle. Continuing this gentle metamorphosis set in motion with their EP “Glory” (out February 2011), the band goes back to studio in June with the untouched determination to astound yet again. On the new LP: "Doo wop" choirs, luminous hymns and funeral marches. Inspired by the new upcoming Californian rock scene as much as by the old demons of Rock’n Roll (Velvet Underground as a banner-bearer), KIM NOVAK continues to write their own story with one only course of action: sincerity and high artistic expectations.

Ils étaient les dignes héritiers d’Interpol, des jeunes gens modernes à surveiller de près tant ils défiaient outrageusement la concurrence sur leur propre terrain. Loin des références cold-wave jadis évoquées, KIM NOVAK revient en 2011 et se rêve un autre destin. Nouvelles chansons, nouveau line-up, directions artistiques étoffées, KIM NOVAK a évolué, élargi ses horizons et ses chansons ont gagné en subtilité. Après avoir posé les jalons de cette douce métamorphose sur l’EP « Glory » sorti en février, KIM NOVAK reprend la route des studios en juin avec la détermination intacte de surprendre une nouvelle fois. Au programme : rock doo woop, hymnes lumineux et ballades funestes. Inspiré autant par la nouvelle scène californienne émergente que par les vieux démons de l’histoire du rock’n’roll (Velvet Underground en figure de proue), KIM NOVAK continue d’écrire son histoire, avec pour seule ligne de conduite la sincérité et l’exigence artistique.
